It is the nature of humans to want to learn, that is just how we are built. I am no exception.
But sometimes things get in the way of learning.
What do you do when you can’t afford to pay for a course? What if you can’t find a course in your language? What do you do when you just don’t have the time? What if you don’t know what course you even want!
I found myself in this situation – hungry to learn, nowhere to go.
“We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them”. Albert Einstein
I realised that ‘learning’ the way we knew it has changed. The regular style classroom that you walk into, sit down in and participate with a teacher and fellow students is somewhat outdated and has an alternative.
So what is this new, alternative type of classroom I speak of? I guess it’s different for everyone, but, for me, my new classroom is my car. It is the ideal place that I have no distractions – just me, the quiet hum of the road and 35 minutes of time (my commute each way) to absorb the information I am being fed. It really is the perfect vacuum for learning where I am present and attentive to take it all in.
I listen to TED talks, podcasts, lectures, speeches, language classes, how to’s, and general musings. I have learnt so much.
And my teachers? They are the best in the world – the elite of the elite! I am proud to tell you that my teachers include Tony Robbins, Matt Kahn, Ester Perel, Eckhart Tolle, Alan Watts, Ram Dass, Tara Brach, and even Oprah herself to name but a few.
Traffic jams have taken on a whole new meaning and gone are those thoughts that my daily commute is a waste of time.
And the best bit – it doesn’t cost me a penny.
Brum, brum….
